I’ve never been one to feel like I can write comfortably at home. In college, I could never study at home either. I’d like to believe that it was mostly because when it’s TOO QUIET, I can’t concentrate on what I’m doing. It’s kind of like not being able to sleep when it’s too quiet, or I’m not in the mood to sleep yet, or in order to get in that space, I need to listen to ambiance sounds like a campfire. For me, it helps me to write when there is noise around me. It forces me to focus on what I’m writing. Being away from the comforts of home puts me in the space to work.
I’ve written a lot of my favorite work in a Starbucks or in a Peets… and I’ll go there if I can. But I’m now looking for more places for the writing muse to make it’s way to inspire, motivate, and/or kick my ass! So, I’m starting a new section in my site called, The Coffee House Writer. This space will give me a reminder and motivation to explore more places where my writing can find a home.
