I’m so excited to launch a new WebApp I’ve created called DialogueLab. It’s a tool to add voices to your script and essentially get your characters’ dialogue out of your head and into your ears.
Even though I’ve spent the last 20 years writing plays, one of the wishes I could have is to actually hear the voices of the characters I’ve created. This wish was especially for the scenes when I had more than two characters. Final Draft has an Assign Voices Tool, but it feels limited and doesn’t seem to be working since ALL the voices sound alike even though I’ve assigned them… but I haven’t played around with it too much. WriterDuet has a character voice tool, but I think that’s a paid option.
In short, I needed a tool to be able to read the dialogue I’ve written in different voices, but had enough “character” in them to feel real. DialogueLab IS NOT built to replace actors! No tool can or should do that. But it was created to catch all of my errors, mostly because I miss a word since my characters talk faster than I can type what they’re saying, so I’ll omit a word or two. Or maybe sometimes I’ll write something that made sense inside my head, but sounds really wonky when I hear it out loud. Another benefit to using DialogueLab as an editing tool is to make the table read MORE EFFICIENT. Using this tool to make sure every word makes sense SAVES TIME when a skilled actor actually reads the script with others and interprets what the character’s intentions are.
I’m still making some tweaks, but it’s mostly ready to be Beta Tested. So if you’d like to check it out, please visit, https://conradpanganiban.com/dialoguelab/
